Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2015 Vermont QSO Party another success!

In the Vermont competition, certificates will go out to the top 5 single op finishers. In addition, all Vermont stations making over 100 QSO’s will also get a certificate.
In the Outside Vermont competition, the “grand prize” for the 2015 Vermont QSO Party is a souvenir 3.4 oz jug of genuine Vermont Maple Syrup which goes to the top 3 Outside Vermont Single Op finishers. You guys worked hard for those contacts and we recognize you with a product which is uniquely Vermont. If you’ve never had Maple Syrup before, it is very sweet and very concentrated, so a little goes a long way! Here in Vermont it is the breakfast topping of choice on pancakes, waffles or jacked deer steak (!?). Enjoy!
Certificates will also go out to the top 5 Single Op stations, top Single Op Assisted station and stations working 10 or more QSO’s.
Vermont stations were all in the Single-Op category as no one competed as a Multi-op this year. In addition, we had one station operating assisted (using the DXCluster) and one incomplete check log. The Host Club (RANV), signing W1NVT was not in competition and was there to make Vermont easily available for most of the QSO Party. The station was active each day, 1300-0400 UTC, on phone only, on 80-10 meters. Seven operators (W1SJ, KB1IVE, KB1THX, KB1VJD, KB1VJE, N1CFO and N7BX manned the controls and all did a bang up job. There were monster DX runs on both days, with 10 meters being the money band. The stateside run was tremendous on Saturday too. With W1NVT showing up in virtually every submitted phone log across 50 states, 8 provinces, 68 countries and 12 Vermont counties, we knew that the mission of putting Vermont out there was accomplished.
In the Vermont competition, Joe K1VMT once again takes the top spot with with 261,706 points. This year, he jumped up to high power, which meant no power multiplier. He was a triple threat with good numbers on phone, CW and RTTY. While his phone-only score would have netted second place, his RTTY numbers of 169 QSOs and 52 multipliers were way ahead of everyone else.
Bob KB1FRW settled into second place with a phone-only score of 137,822. He was hampered by a somewhat limited operating schedule and local noise. He made some attempts at RTTY contacts, but that didn’t work out. Look for him to be a threat on this mode next year.
A newcomer to the Vermont QSO Party, Bob AB1NJ made a serious run at the top and turned in a 3rd place score of 118,350 which was primarily phone with a few RTTY QSO’s thrown in. He was heard all afternoon on 20 meters, even from clear across the state.
Zach K1ZK rolled out his new club call sign W1JXN, which replaced WB1MG used in previous years. He used all three modes to tally 87,978 points, good for 4th place. He tried to work as much CW as he could, but reports that it was very lonely down there!
Rounding out the top five is Gerry W1VE, who is no stranger to contesting. What is strange (to many old time hams) is that he was home in New Hampshire and used a 50 mile long extension cord (the Internet) to operate from K2LE’s shack in southern Vermont. In contesting, it is the transmitter location which counts, so this is a bonafide Vermont operation. Gerry ran up 48,360 points on high power just on Sunday afternoon. His score would have been much larger if he got into the morning European runs.
Sixth and seventh place resulted in the battle of QRP! Steve W1SFR just edged out Cesar K1TNT by a margin of only 3096 points. In laymen’s terms, that is only 13 CW QSO’s with the QRP multiplier. It is impressive that both ops ran up well over 100 CW QSO’s on QRP while higher powered stations struggled to make less than that.
Some other achievements of note – Bob KB1FRW was the only station (besides host station W1NVT) to work all states. And Rob N1XSS picked up 11 out of 14 Vermont counties and was the only Vermont station to work both Vermont club stations W1NVT and W1JXN. Overall, 13 out of 17 Vermont stations worked at least 100 QSO’s and qualified for a certificate.
